Free practice: BMW driver Spengler fastest

Above all, second free practice of the DTM promises one thing for the first qualifying of the season: sheer excitement. In the second practice session, the first 18 drivers were within one second. On Saturday morning, Bruno Spengler set the fastest time with his BMW M3 DTM. He completed his fastest lap at the 4.574 kilometres long track in 1:33.512 minutes. The Franco-Canadian improved his personal fastest time of the previous day by 1.892 seconds.

Second-placed Edoardo Mortara with the Audi A5 DTM just came short of Spengler’s time: the Italian was only 0.007 seconds slower. Behind Mattias Ekström, Mike Rockenfeller and Filipe Albuquerque (all Audi), Jamie Green ended up sixth with the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé.

The experienced DTM drivers Scheider, Molina and Vietoris in seventh to ninth place, DTM novice Joey Hand (BMW) made it into the top ten. He was 0.416 seconds down on the fastest time of his fellow BMW driver Spengler.

From 13.40 h, the action starts in earnest: in the first DTM qualifying of the new season, the battle is on for the starting grid positions for the first race of the season. The ARD is broadcasting the battle for the times from Hockenheim live from 13.25 h onwards.
