About the event

For about 40 years Styria has been staging motor-sport events. Back in 1969, the circuit was opened under the name ‘Österreichring’. A project that experienced my ups and downs, in the past decades, thus reflecting the track layout. Nowhere else, the DTM drivers have to cope with similarly steep uphill sections like at the circuit in Austria’s ‘Murtal’ (Mur Valley). Since 2011 the series has been a regular guest at the Red Bull Ring – the official name since the circuit was reopened in 2010 – in every year. Spielberg’s picturesque Alps panorama make for a special atmosphere and the track layout for thrilling races. The past season didn’t represent an exception: the weekend at Spielberg once again provided spectacular and electrifying motor racing.

About the racetrack

Opened 26. Juli 1969
Length 4,326 km
Lap record Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) 1.25,266 Min. (3. August 2013)

Highlights on the weekend

Enthralling race action and far more

A DTM weekend is far more than just a motor-racing event. Apart from to the enthralling race action provided by DTM and the top-class race series in its support programme, visiting the paddock represents a particular highlight. There’s a lot to be watched and in addition, the DTM aces will be available for autographing sessions and rounds of interviews. And there will be top-class concerts featuring renowned musicians. To cut a long story short: a memorable event for the entire family.

  • The city: Spielberg’s circuit is located in the Mur Valley, a very special landscape in the centre of Austria’s ‘Green Heart’: from the ‘Turracher Höhe’ to Aichfeld, some 700 excursion destinies wait for being explored by the visitors. Hike through the ‘Naturpark Grebenzen’, take a walk, relax in the ‘Therme Aqualux’, visit historic markets – it’s all there.

  • The circuit: The circuit at Spielberg will be officially re-opened as Red Bull Ring in April 2011 and represents a combination of the most sophisticated standards and a legendary racetrack.

  • Grandstand tip: West Grandstand: perfect view of the tight turn one and the battles taking place on the way to and in this corner.

  • Excursion tips: In addition to the three most popular destinations – Mariazell Basilica, the Graz ‘Schlossberg’ and the Dachstein Sky Walk – internationally respected events also attract every year hundreds of thousands of visitors. Events such as the numerous festivals for classic and popular/light music, numerous world championships and world cups in the areas alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping and ski flying as well as mountain-biking – or the Air-Power’, Austria’s Europe-wide renowned air show. In 2013, for instance, Schladming will be the venue of the Men Alpine Skiing World Championship.
