The € 500,000 Euro Race – World Champions in DTM Cars

Four former Formula One World Champions and a five-time World Motorbike Champion are going to contest the ‘Race of Legends’, on 16th July, at Nuremberg’s Norisring. Formula One World Champions Emerson Fittipaldi (1972 and 1974 World Champion, 144 Grands Prix contested, 14 wins), Nigel Mansell (1992/187/56), Alain Prost (1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993, 199/51) and Jody Scheckter (1979/112/10) as well as five-time World Motorbike Champion Mick Doohan (1994 to 1998, 137/54) will contest a €500,000 charity race.

This event, contested with DTM cars of Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel, represents the first time that these five motor racing legends will battle it out with each other. “Never before in the DTM history, there has been a race like this,” explained ITR Chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht. “This is an additional highlight for both the crowds on the Norisring grandstands and the TV audience. We are truly proud that these former World Champions agreed to enter the DTM cars for this charity event.”

The Super Motorsport Saturday will be covered by the German TV station ARD live at the prime time. From 18:10hrs CET (17:10hrs GMT), the ARD will cover the DTM qualifying session and the Super Pole, with the Race of Legends starting afterwards, featuring the aforementioned World Champions that have contested a total of 777 Grands Prix.

Four-time F1 World Champion Alain Prost tested a DTM car, on the Monday following the Oschersleben DTM weekend and was impressed: “The DTM cars are fantastic. I had a lot of fun out there on the track,” said the ‘Professor’. The other ‘Legends’ will test the Audi A4 DTM, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Opel Vectra GTS V8 on the Friday of the Norisring weekend. For all holders of a DTM ticket, the admission to the Race of Legends will be free.
