Cecotto the 6th superstar to contest the „Race of Legends“

The ‘Race of Legends’, taking place this Saturday (16th July) will be contested by six World Champions from six countries, with Johnny Cecotto being the newest asset of the event held at Nuremberg’s Norisring, as part of the DTM weekend. The two-time World Motorbike Champion is going to contest the €500.000 charity race together with Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Jody Scheckter, Emerson Fittipaldi and Mick Doohan.

For the first time in history, four Formula One World Champions and two World Motorbike Champions are going to battle it out with each other behind the wheels of DTM cars. Altogether, the drivers have contested more than 800 Grands Prix and succeeded in securing 15 World Championships. Every competitor will contest three five-minute stints, with each of them doing one stint in the AudiA4 DTM, one in the AMG-Mercedes C-Class and one in the Opel Vectra GTS V8. The fastest lap times a driver sets in each of his stints will be added together to find the winner.

The prize money of €500,000 will be used for charitable purposes. German actor Veronica Ferres and the Team Manager of the German football team, Oliver Bierhoff, are expected to attend the event as representatives of the welfare organisations. “What a great initiative of DTM,” said Veronica Ferres, acting for all those involved in this charity activity. “It’s really impressive that all these motor racing aces have spontaneously agreed to take part in this charity event, here in Nuremberg.”

The ‘Race of Legends’ will be covered live by the ARD from 18:55hrs CET (17:55hrs GMT). For all the holders of a DTM ticket, the admission to this unique event will be free.
