Coulthard and Priaulx to contest the 2012 Race of Champions
This weekend, the motor-racing enthusiasts may look forward to the Race of Champions. The best drivers of the most different motor-racing disciplines will travel to Bangkok to find out who’s the best of the best in 2012. And with David Coulthard (Mercedes-Benz) and Andy Priaulx (BMW), two of the drivers that contested the 2012 DTM season also will be involved.
In the event held in the Rajamangala National Stadium, the two Britons will have to battle it out with the likes of three-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel and seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher as well as eight-time Le Mans winner and former DTM driver Tom Kristensen. The Nations Cup will be kicked off on Saturday, 15th December (14:00hrs CET / 13:00hrs BT), with Priaulx and Coulthard forming the Team UK. It goes without saying that the British pairing would love to make an end to the five-year streak of success of Vettel and Schumacher. Then, on Sunday, it’s every man for himself. The battle for the drivers’ title begins at 14:00hrs CET (13:00hrs BT) and in the end, we will know who is the champion of the 2012 champions. In last year’s final, in Düsseldorf, Tom Kristensen was defeated by rally ace Sébastien Ogier.
“I always had fun in the Race of Champions,” reveals Priaulx who is going to contest the event for the seventh consecutive time. “The stadium atmosphere is something very special and I’m really looking forward to the one in Bangkok. I finished runner-up in the Nations Cup twice and I really hope that ‘DC’ and I will make it to the highest step on the podium, this year. Nonetheless, we are fully aware that realising this goal will be anything but easy, with all the legends on the grid. After all, they all know how to race and how to win.”
