Daniel Juncadella back in a DTM cockpit
The sixth driver to represent the Mercedes-AMG colours on the 2018 DTM grid is Daniel Juncadella. The Spaniard is making his DTM comeback after a one-year break. This means that Mercedes-AMG are relying on the concentrated power of six extremely experienced DTM drivers, in 2018. Last year, Juncadella had two tasks: on the one hand he was test and reserve driver for the DTM squad and on the other, he raced a Mercedes-AMG GT3 in VLN, the Blancpain Series and the Nürburgring 24h Race.
“It feels great to be back racing in the DTM this year,” said Daniel. “I’m really keen on getting back into the car after a one-year break as DTM driver. I gained further experience last year thanks to having raced in a number of GT series and as test driver I always had close contact to the team. I’m pleased that I finally will have the opportunity to again contest DTM races. I never was really done with DTM and always had the feeling that my results didn’t reflect my true competitiveness. But this year I want to settle this score.”
Daniel is a well-known face in DTM. From 2013 up to and including 2016 he contested four seasons and 56 races for the brand with the star and scored a total of 75 points, in these years. .
“Daniel knows the team really well from previous years and as our test and reserve driver he also was on site during race weekends in 2017,” said Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Team Principal Ulrich Fritz. “Therefore, he won’t need a lot of time for re-familiarising himself with DTM.”
