DTM drivers: The class of 2017
The entry list for the 2017 DTM season is complete. After Audi and BMW, Mercedes-AMG now also announced their line-up for the coming season. 18 drivers will represent the three premium-car manufacturers on the grid and will make for an absolute top-class field. The drivers contesting the 2017 season have won a total of eight DTM titles and 113 DTM races. And they also set standards when it comes to experience: together, they contested a total of 1,394 DTM races.
The only driver on this year’s grid for whom the popular touring-car series represents complete virgin soil is Audi’s Loïc Duval. The Frenchman is going to make his DTM debut from 5th to 7th May at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. The second real new signing is his fellow Audi driver René Rast – who already contested two DTM races in 2016 as Audi reserve driver.
Meanwhile, Maro Engel is making his DTM comeback for Mercedes-AMG. The Mercedes-AMG driver who resides in Monaco competed in DTM from 2008 to 2011 and contested a total of 42 races, in this period of time. Today, Engel is a true jack in all trades who raced in different GT and sports-car series, the Australian V8 Supercars and even Formula E.
The only driver who switched from one manufacturer to another is Edoardo Mortara. After 76 races and eight race wins for Audi, the 2016 vice-champion now will represent the Mercedes-AMG colours.
