For the first time in his career Timo Glock will be starting from pole position in a DTM race. In qualifying for the 13th race of the season, the ex-Formula 1 driver secured the best starting grid position for the race on Saturday with his BMW M4 DTM. With his lap time of 1:19.821 minutes, Glock was 0.056 seconds faster than his fellow BMW driver Augusto Farfus, who qualified for second place on the grid. For BMW, qualifying at Oschersleben went according to plan: behind Glock and Farfus, Tom Blomqvist, António Félix da Costa and Bruno qualified in third to fifth place. Behind Pascal Wehrlein, the best-placed Mercedes-Benz driver in sixth position, Marco Wittmann and Martin Tomczyk ended up seventh and eighth. For Miguel Molina, qualifying came to an early end after an impact into the Armco barriers, which brought the yellow flags out in the closing stages. In the race, Molina will be starting from ninth place. Mattias Ekström will be facing a difficult task: the points’ leader is all the way at the back of starting grid: position 24 for the Swede. The reason for Ekström’s poor result is a gearshift problem.

Timo Glock, BMW, 1st place: “That really is great. Nobody can imagine how good this is making me feel. The past days, weeks and races were really difficult. The only thing I can do is thank my team. On Thursday, we spent a lot of time with the track inspection and we talked a lot with each other. That has brought me a lot for qualifying today. In the car, I already noticed that this lap was going to be good. I think, I can’t get anything more from the car. With the second set of tyres, I wasn’t able to go any faster. There simply was too much traffic. Moreover, there were yellow flags towards the end of the session. Thus, I had to worry for a while, but fortunately, it was enough.”

Augusto Farfus, BMW, 2nd place: “I am really happy. Here, we have a package that is particularly strong. BMW always has the goal that all cars perform well and deliver a good result. This weekend, we have all been doing a brilliant job so far. This season, I already had a good set up a couple of times, we were often among the fastest BMWs in qualifying, but then weren’t able to bring it home in the race. Last time out at Moscow, nothing worked for us. Therefore, I am now all the more happy with second place on the grid. For the race, I am really confident. Now, I have to make a good start, then anything can happen.”

Tom Blomqvist, BMW 3rd place: “At Moscow, I was fifth after qualifying, and now the step to third place. I am really happy with that. The entire result is simply great for my brand: five BMWs up front. Of course, being on pole position would have been great. After all, I was fastest for a long time. But I am sure that my time will come. In the race, we have to make clever use of our starting advantage. I will attack and see what comes out in the end.
