Austrian racer Ferdinand von Habsburg will rejoin the DTM grid after agreeing a deal to drive a customer Audi with Belgium’s WRT squad.
The 22-year-old was one of Aston Martin’s four-driver squad in 2019, and will join WRT’s expanded three-car operation alongside Ed Jones and Fabio Scherer. Von Habsburg led at both Misano and the Nurburgring last year, and earned a best finishing position of ninth, at Zolder.
His arrival bolsters this year’s DTM grid to 16 cars.
“I feel like I did a good job last year,” said von Habsburg. “I ended the season in a strong position, so I was determined to come back and continue what I’d started. The Audi RS5 DTM was seriously impressive last year and I can’t wait to drive it. They say that if you live your dream it’ll never be as good as you imagined, but DTM definitely did not disappoint!”
WRT team principal Vincent Vosse added: “We’re delighted to add a third car to our line-up. Ferdinand is a talented, fast and bright driver and I really like his approach to racing. With a full year of DTM experience under his belt, he’ll be a valuable addition and, alongside Ed and Fabio, will form a trio of young guns that perfectly match the ambitions of WRT Team Audi Sport.”
