Kovalainen and Quintarelli to race the SUPER GT vehicles
Now it has been officially announced who is going to race the two spectacular 620bhp SUPER GT vehicles in the DTM season finale at Hockenheim. The two Japanese cars will be raced by renowned drivers: Heikki Kovalainen will drive the Lexus LC500 and Ronnie Quintarelli the Nissan GT-R.
From 2007 to 2013, 35-year old Kovalainen contested 111 Formula One GPs and won the 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix. Since 2015 he has been racing in the Japanese GT series. “This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the attractiveness of the Super GT cars,” said the Finn. “For me it’s my first return to a European circuit since I retired from F1 for good. DTM is really famous in Japan and has a lot in common with our series. This will be an exciting event."
38-year old Italian Quintarelli won the 2004 Japanese Formula 3 Championship and in 2006 he was F1 test driver for Spyker MF1. Following a stint in Formula Nippon, he has been racing in the Japanese GT series since 2009. “It’s an honour for me to have the chance of presenting the Nissan at Hockenheim. SUPER GT is a wonderful series. No we finally have the opportunity to also showcase our cars in Europe.”
