Numerous stars in the support programme
The thrilling final with the three-way battle featuring the main actors Paul Di Resta, Gary Paffett and René Rast will take centre stage in the grand DTM season finale. But this weekend’s support programme also will be a true hit. On the occasion of Mercedes-AMG’s parting with DTM after 30 eventful years of motor racing, the heroes of the past will star in the Touring Car Classics in addition to Klaus Ludwig, Roland Asch, Harald Grohs, Marc Hessel and Frank Schmickler the likes of Jörg van Ommen, Bernd Mayländer and Kurt Thiim also will race in this fantastic touring-car field. Altogether, the entry list comprises 37 competitors – a possibly record breaking grid.
For Jörg van Ommen it will be the Touring Car Classics debut. The German who was born in Moers contested 217 DTM races from 1984 to 1996 and with 992.5 points he currently holds sixth position in the all-time DTM point-record list. In both 1994 and 1995 he finished vice-champion behind DTM Record Champion Bernd Schneider. In the race meeting at Baden-Württemberg, van Ommen will race the TABAC Mercedes C-Class he contested the 1995 season with. Bernd Mayländer has been the official F1 World Championship safety-car driver for many years, now. The man from Waiblingen, Germany, and Thorsten Stadler will drive Ellen Lohr’s1994 D2 Mercedes C-Class. Kurt Thiim also was extremely popular in those days. The Dane who won the 1986 title with a Rover Vitesse will alternate at the wheel of a Group-H Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 with Dutchman Gerbert Luttikhuis who also enters the car. An interested observer on site will be the iconic voice of DTM, Rainer Braun, who will witness not only the grand DTM season finale but also the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and the GT4 Sprint Cup Europe powered by SRO – just like BMW Brand Ambassador and top model Lena Gehrke.
Meanwhile, the Disco Boyz will make for party atmosphere at Hockenheim. On Saturday from 19:00hrs CEST (18:00hrs BST), the DJs will put on their tunes on the show stage in the paddock. For 90 minutes, Raphael Krickow and Gordon Hollenga will delight the crowds with their distinctive mix of modern house music and old disco classics. For all the visitors with paddock tickets, the admission will be free. The campaign ‘Die DTM macht Schule’ also proved to be extremely popular. DTM invites all the pupils and students and grants them free admission to the grand season finale. For Sunday, all the pupils / student tickets already are out of stock. What comes as no surprise as the weekend in Hockenheim’s legendary stadium will be spectacular.
