Paffet quickest in the morning
Last year’s runner-up succeeded in setting the fastest lap in the warm-up: behind the wheel of his AMG-Mercedes C-Class, Gary Paffett lapped the 4.547-kilometre Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg in 1:35.307 minutes, thus securing the top position on the time sheets. Tom Kristensen in his Audi A4 DTM was only fractions slower (0.159 seconds) and finished second, with pole-sitter Mattias Ekström securing third place. The warm-up took place at a temperature of about 13° C and a rain shower at halftime of the session spiced the show up.
Marcel Fässler, who will be fourth on the grid, was once again the best Opel driver. In his Opel Vectra GTS V8, the Swiss driver took 13th place, while three drivers of 2004 spec cars – Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz), Christian Abt (Audi) and Pierre Kaffer (Audi) made it to the top-ten. In yesterday’s qualifying already, two 2004 spec car drivers had caused a stir: In the Super pole, Bruno Spengler clinched sixth position on the grid for his maiden DTM race, while Stefan Mücke finished tenth.
