Réne Rast to also contest the 2018 season for Audi
“I’m delighted with being able to announce that I’m going to also race for Audi Sport in 2018,” said René Rast on Friday evening at the 2017 Autobild Race Night, held within the framework of the Essen Motorshow. The new DTM Champion’s goal for 2018: to defend the title. “To just fight on and keep going for it definitely pays off,” he added.
During the Autobild Race Night, the 31-year old German was presented with the Award bearing the same name for having won the DTM title. On the stage – in front of about 600 guests representing the automotive and the motor-racing industries - Rast proved to still be overwhelmed by his success and answered the question of editor-in-chief Bianca Garloff. “Back in 2003 I competed in Formula BMW and raced for the first time in the DTM support programme,” revealed Rast. “Since then, I dreamed about racing in DTM myself. I tried year by year to somehow make it on the DTM grid and year by year I had to cope with another blow from behind."

„This year, Audi Sport finally offered me the opportunity to advance to the series. It goes without saying that I also pressurised myself. But now I’m just happy.” At the same time, he also praised Audi Sport Team Rosberg: “Team Rosberg just did a perfect job – you can’t describe it differently, after all we won the title. They made me feel at home right from the start and the team spirit is amazing. Therefore, I owe my title these guys too.”
In addition to his DTM commitment, Rast is going to also contest sports-car races with a Mazda prototype for Joest Racing, next year.
