Record audience watches DTM season kick-off
Yesterday’s DTM season kick-off, held at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, made for record breaking audience ratings, with a peak figure of 2.5 million viewers – representing a market share of 18.8 percent – wanting to see two-time F1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen’s first appearance on the DTM grid. The average audience watching the thrilling battles of Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel added up to 2.28 millions and a market share of 17 percent: the biggest average DTM season kick-off audience ever. At the end of the day, the ARD’s season kick-off live coverage attracted more viewers than proven sports shows such as the ‘Sportschau am Sonntag’ and the ‘ZDF Sportreportage’.
ITR Chairman Hans Werner was delighted: „Never before did a DTM season opener achieve such audience ratings,” he said. „These figures prove that DTM with its fascinating overtaking manoeuvres and its thrilling battles for the lead has got what it needs to inspire the motor racing enthusiasts.”
