Vietoris back in DTM
Christian Vietoris will work for Mercedes-AMG in the 2018 season as test and reserve driver. The German who saw the light of day in Gerolstein joins Daniel Juncadella and Pascal Wehrlein as third DTM returnee in the 2018 line-up of the Stuttgart based manufacturer. The 29-year old already raced for Mercedes AMG in DTM from 2011 to 2016.
In this period of time he celebrated a race win, secured nine podiums and set two fastest race laps. In the 2013 and 2014 seasons he finished fourth in the drivers’ championship, thus being the best Mercedes-AMG driver on the grid. “After a one-year break it feels great to be back in the Mercedes family,” he said. “The batteries are fully charged and I’m ready for my tasks as reserve driver in DTM.”
Meanwhile, Team Principal Ulrich Fritz is delighted with having such a fast racing driver and team player up his sleeve. “He knows the team and our operational procedures and he has got several years of DTM experience under his belt. That’s exactly what you want when it comes to a reserve driver who possibly has to get into the car and deliver right away,” he stressed.
