„This will be a great event”
This weekend at the Hockenheimring, the spectators may look forward for a special musical highlight: this Saturday, from 19:30hrs to about 21:00 CEST (18:30 to 20:00hrs BST), the German Hip-Hop superstars ‘Die Fantastischen Vier’ will play live in the DTM support programme DTM.com had the opportunity to ask Smudo, one of ‘Die Fantastischen Vier’, a few questions. The rapper has been an enthusiastic motor racer for many years. Today he races at the Nürburgring Nordschleife together with Tom von Löwis of Menar who contested 35 DTM races from 1987 to 1992.
Smudo, for you as motor racer playing live in the support programme of the DTM season finale certainly isn’t just a common concert...
“It goes without saying that I’m looking forward to this gig. A season finale always is nice. Everybody is in a good mood, there certainly will be some partying going on and it will be cool – like always during the season finale at Hockenheim. I’m really curious about the atmosphere. Should I find the time I definitely also will watch the Saturday race. I think DTM is just wicked as the drivers are fighting really hard and take their cars to the very limit. Unfortunately I have to be back at home on Sunday as we also are working on our new album. And on Monday the family and I will go on a leave.”
You even have personal connection to DTM...
“Well, this has been a long time ago but yes, in 2000 I contested several Beetle Cup races in the DTM support programme, got to know new DTM and several people, such as Altfrid Heger. A nice experience.”
Would you be tempted to drive a DTM car?
“Absolutely, you wouldn’t have to ask me twice. I’d do it without further ado.”
Do your band colleagues share your motor-racing passion?
“Actually not at all. But Thomas also is a car enthusiast. In the early days he accompanied me to many tourist events and also to get to know the Nürburgring Nordschleife. But I have been racing so long, now, that it’s just normal for them.”
