Wurz: „DTM provides fantastic motor racing“
Today, DTM will showcase itself during a press conference held in Vienna, Austria. The Austrian capital is located just 127 kilometres from Brno, Czech Republic and the ‘Auto Motodrom Brno’, the venue of this weekend’s fourth DTM round. In addition to the DTM aces Marcel Fässler (Opel), Jamie Green (Mercedes-Benz) and Martin Tomczyk (Audi), the currently most popular Austrian racing driver – Alexander Wurz – had been invited to attend the press conference as guest of honour.
“DTM provides extremely fantastic motor racing and a unique closeness to its supporters,” said Wurz who has been a DTM driver himself, back in 1996, behind the wheel of an Opel. That time, he succeeded in securing the ‘Rookie of the Year’ title after only 14 rounds, and today, Wurz is the third driver of the McLaren Mercedes Formula One team. “This year, DTM is experiencing an incredible upward trend,” added Wurz, “last but not least because of Mika Häkkinen’s involvement.” Wurz admits to have been surprised by the short time two-time F1 World Champion Häkkinen needed to make it to the top of the DTM field. “DTM stands for extremely competitive motor racing. Therefore, it’s a proof of Mika’s extraordinary skills that he succeeded in winning his only third DTM race.”
For all his Austrian compatriots, Alexander Wurz has the following advice: “I just can recommend you to go and watch the DTM round at Brno. The tickets are cheap and you can witness a lot of great action for – that’s what I call extremely fantastic motor racing.”
